how Villa Medici started
Villa Medici opened in 2005, with Carlos Barreira and Jana Barreira, and with Chef Franco Palandra in the kitchen. At the time in Carvoeiro, there was only one Italian restaurant and the news spread fast!
In 2006 Carlos Barreira and Jana Barreira were invited to manage a hotel in Germany, and accepted the proposal “It was a difficult decision at the time, because we had Villa Medici for such a short time. But it was an excellent proposal, and there we left for Germany.”
At the beginning
Somewhere in the middle…
In that 5 year period they were away, rented Villa Medici, always with the intention of returning. On the 1st of January 2011, they returned to Carvoeiro to run the restaurant again. It was difficult to give back to Villa Medici its identity… After much effort and dedication, Villa Medici went back to being what it was, a successful restaurant. Today, Villa Medici is a reference in the Algarve when it comes to Italian cuisine, and anyone who comes here can confirm this.
With all the success, there were days when it was difficult to receive all those who came to us, and it was necessary to invest to increase the area of the restaurant. In 2012 they bought the property next door, and more works, more dedication, both inside and outside the restaurant. Now with more than 90 seats in the living room, 2 kitchens, 3 outdoor patios prepared to receive more than 40 people on hot nights.
The restaurant excels in good taste and good food, in a classic, seductive and romantic atmosphere, inspired by classic Italian movies. From a business dinner, to a romantic dinner or a family dinner, the restaurant is prepared to receive you with open arms, with all the quality that our clients deserve.
A friendly, professional and competent staff. In the kitchen the Chef’s are experienced and passionate about Italian cuisine. The food is all homemade, the pastas are hand made, and the desserts are delicious. The wine list is extensive and of quality, from local to Italian wines.
Villa Medici is currently run by my son, David Barreira, who will continue our excellent work for many, many years to come!
